Smoking Areas at Sydney Airport (SYD)
Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD) has a strict no smoking policy inside all terminal buildings, including the use of e-cigarettes and vapes. However, for travelers who smoke, there are clearly marked designated smoking areas located outside the terminals.
In Terminal 1 (International), smoking is only permitted in specific outdoor areas near the departures drop-off zone and arrivals area. Inside the terminal, smoking is strictly prohibited—even after security. So if you need a smoke before a long international flight, make sure to do it before heading through security screening.
In Terminals 2 and 3 (Domestic), designated smoking zones are also located outside the terminal entrances. No smoking is allowed once you’re inside the secure departure area.
Travelers should always follow signage and staff instructions to locate the correct smoking areas. Using these outdoor zones helps ensure a clean, safe, and comfortable airport experience for everyone.
